If you are looking to green your kitchen, reduce waste or are after healthier, chemical free solutions when cooking, then the brand If You Care is for you.
If You Care's range of household and kitchen products are made from renewable or recyclable materials and they carefully analyse the entire life cycle of the product from manufacturing to use to disposal. The entire range is either fully compostable, biodegradable or recyclable (including the packaging) so you can be sure that your use of these products is not impacting the environment and not contributing to waste. How cool is that?
If You Care have a huge range of products including recycled aluminium foil, compostable garbage bags, recycled rubber washing up gloves, parchment baking paper, coffee filters, baking cups, sandwich bags, basically everything you need in your kitchen!
We reviewed the following products;
Compostable Kitchen Bags
I hate the thought of adding even more plastic to landfill and had been looking for an eco alternative to garbage bags. These bags are very soft but surprisingly strong and fit into our medium sized garbage bin perfectly. They are easy to tie up and so far we haven't had any rips or tears when taking the trash out. The fact they are completely biodegradable makes them an excellent alternative to garbage bags.
Sponge Cloths
I use these sponge cloths to wash our dishes, clean surfaces and pick up any spills. They are a great size, really absorbable and super easy to use. I love that when they become soiled, you can simply throw them in the wash and then reuse. They can be washed hundreds of times and used over and over and both packaging and the cloths are fully compostable. I use these every single day and absolutely love them.
Parchment Baking Paper
Normal baking paper can contain harmful chemicals (such as dioxin and heavy metals) that can transfer to your food and enter your body. A great way to avoid this is to use parchment paper, which is not only non-stick but is also completely compostable meaning you can add it to your compost or it will degrade quickly when in landfill, leaving no waste. I find the parchment paper is used the exact same way as normal baking paper, although you do require scissors to cut as there is no metal cutting edge. They are available in pre-cut pieces however.
Household Gloves
These gloves are made from certified FSC latex (natural rubber) which is not only sourced from sustainable plantations but the workers are also paid fair trade premium wages, helping their local economy. The gloves are great for all cleaning (I use them for washing dishes and cleaning bathrooms) and I found them no different to use then the normal rubber gloves you can buy from the supermarket. They can be composted by cutting into small pieces too! Available in three sizes, small, medium and large.
I absolutely adore the If You Care range and use something from their range everyday. Being passionate about the environment, it's great that I can cook and feed my family but not compromise the environment and add to landfill. You can buy the online at Shop Naturally, Biome and from many other online health stores.
